Lotus roots should not be eaten with chrysanthemum at the same time since it may cause gastric discomfort. Women who are in pregnancy should avoid eating lotus roots because of its cold nature. Although eating lotus roots is crisp and refreshing, it is not good for the operation of spleen and stomach as it may cause indigestion. Therefore, patients who are in constipation should avoid eating lotus roots without cooking.

Lotus roots that are in full shape, fat and short size, with brown colour skin and without smelly are recommended to be purchased. Lotus roots would be juicy if its holes are bigger.
