Blue House

A grade I historic building, The Blue House was the original site of “Wan Chai Kai Fong Hospital.” The building was demolished in 1920 and turned into a 4-storey building in 1922. It is one of the few surviving examples of Tong Lau with balcony design, with a balcony made of cast-iron attached to each floor. In the 50s, Lam Cho, nephew of Lam Sai Wing, student of famous Kung Fu master Wong Fei-Hung, opened his kung fu sutdio in no. 72, [TN: Stone Nullah Lane]. His son Lam Chi Hin changed the place into an osteopathy clinic in the 60s. First floor of no. 72 was once a free school for children from the community, and the second and third floor was the only English school in Wan Chai before the war.

When the government repainted the building in 1990, only blue paint that was frequently used by the Water Department was available, thus a blue house it became.
