Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre (former Whitfield Barracks)

The Centre is housed in blocks S61 and S62 of former Whitfield Barrack built around 1910.  The land was returned to Hong Kong government in 1967 and rebuilt as the Kowloon Park in 1970. The 2 buildings were used as temporary premises  for the Hong Kong History Museum from 1983, until the actual museum building was constructed in 1998. Since then, the 2 buildings were abandoned and reopened for public in 2005 after restoration as the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre.

The exhibition, with archaeology and historic architecture as themes, combines models, multi-media program and interactive approach, is interesting and exciting. It also organizes conferences, workshop and guided tours. When coming for a swim at the Kowloon Park, one can also visit the Centre and take part in its activities. Before entering the Center, take note of the copper doors that are the original main door of the third generation of HSBC building.
