Ways to Dispose of Cremated Ashes
 
As cremated ashes are processed at a high temperature, they will not pose any threat to public health. There are different ways to dispose of cremated ashes. The common options include: scattering in the designated waters; scattering in a garden of remembrance managed by the government or a private cemetery ; depositing at a columbarium managed by the government; placing additionally in an urn grave of a public cemetery as well as depositing at a private columbarium
 
(i) Application for New Niches in Allocation Exercises 
 
When the construction of a new columbarium is completed, Food and Environmental Hygiene Department will announce the arrangements for allocation of niches in newspapers and on its website. Applicants’ priorities for selecting niches are determined by Food and Environmental Hygiene Department according to computer balloting. 
 
(ii) Application for Re-allocation of Reused Niches
 
In addition, Food and Environmental Hygiene Department also offers vacated niches at columbaria for re-allocation to members of the public on the waiting list Waiting times depend on the number of reused niches available. Applicants should make reference to the waiting time for reused nichesbefore making applications,
