When traveling abroad, it is just natural to visit local historic sites and monuments, museums and art museums, because our lives are short compared to the long human civilization. Those architectures and relics can tell us stories about the past. Therefore, we should do the same to the city that we grew up in, to understand her in depth through visiting historic sites. Thanks to our ancestors have stuck to our heritage, Hong Kong, being colonized for over 100 years, is still full of historical traces for us to observe if we are willing to look for them in the streets or in rural areas. Even paying attention to just small things, a road sign, a pillar box, a temple, an old Tong Lau, or even an abandoned house with green tiles in the rural areas, an out of use factory building, we can learn a few stories under the Lion Rock.
In these pages, we will introduce over 40 historic sites, located in
Hong Kong Island,
Kowloon,
the New Territories and the Outlying Islands, which have great historic value and can be easily accessed. Some of them have kept their original appearances, some have been restored with new elements added. Whatever way you choose, visiting them alone or with a few friends and family, joining guided tours or taking a stroll, spending your free time there will take you back in time.
There is also information on guided tours organized by different groups for a more interesting, value-added visit.
